Best dual purpose chicken(s)?

How you raise chicks can make a difference. I'm sure the genetics have changed some since then, but when I was growing up, we always grew the Cornish cross broilers, and saved out a dozen or so of the best pullets. Put them on a little milder feed, and they went on to lay very well as a home flock. I wouldn't use them if I wanted to sell eggs. The dual-purpose breeads just don't put on much meat till they're too old to make nice, tender fryers.

Probably not for fried chicken, but for enchiladas, fajitas, stew... a dish where you marinate or slow cook the chicken. Crockpot or pressure cooker. They'll taste the same, but they may be a little tougher.

OK that makes sence.
It would be more of a stewing bird, to counter the toughness that comes from age.
Thank you for that information Mrs. AK-Bird-Brain.

i have bjgs chickens 6months old roosters are aggressive hens stay away form you..funny ive raised them since babies i dont think i will have this breed again.. yes they are very big birds the one thing i do like..they laid 2 eggs so far and none in 3 weeks ..they are fed very well..

We have SS rooster and SS hen, going to use their chicks as meat birds. It took awhile for our hen to Lay, I want to say closer to 30 weeks. We also are doing RSL/SS mixes as meat birds too. depending on what hatches.
