Hello! I was just wondering.. Where I will be having my girls run, I need to (or would like to) buy some dirt, or something to put down. Where it is currently is going to go is super rocky, with clay. I remember when we bought the house we had to have real dirt spread all over the lawn- cuz it was so bad. Anyways, what type of material should I use to fill it in? Grass won't grow there! At least, I don't think it will! Any thoughts, or ideas?

I am with you on this, my yard has been rocks and packed clay like dirt underneath. Rack and shovel the rocks out as much as you possibly can...then add sand. The rock moving has been proving hard though. My coop already has sand in it, it's great!

Zahboo, what do you mean by erode?

If you don't have the sand boxed in it can wear away. The wind carries some. After a few months you may need to buy some more. It depends if there is any trees and stuff to break up wind.

Ah! Ok, thats what I thought you ment. Right now I am wetting the dirt once I get down to and digging as much as I can then placing wood planks along the run fence.

Now I've never used sand, but I myself have looked into it. How expensive is it? We have a 28x8 area that needs to be done. Part covered, part not.
