I have owned LOTS of guns over the years and now I keep a .17 cal loaded by the back door. It is plenty for coyotes and foxes and is accurate out to 200 yards. It is a little louder than the .22 long rifle rounds but I don't care if the neighbors hear me shoot. I took care of a fox a couple weeks ago that was prowling outside my girl's run.

The subsonic .22 rounds work very well up close although they will not put down a coon. All of the ones that I have shot with those ran off into the woods to die. Not a great thing if you have neighbors close by.

i dont know if anyone has mentioned a shotgun (any gauge) but they are pretty good all purpose guns (use slugs for the bigger stuff) the shells are pretty cheap and they are every where, the gun its self can be pretty cheap, and u can load with the difffernt shells for what u need, u never miss(unless u use a slug)

.22 long, .17, shotgun, anything will do if you aim straight, they'll get the message!!

I like my .22 mag myself!

Sometimes a good dog is the best thing for varmints, but there are drawbacks. We had a varmint on the porch where the chicks are last night.

But I will let Nancy, my Scottish Deerhound, tell you in her own words.......

Last night in the middul of the night a strange animal tried to get Mom's baby chicks. Well next time they can DIE let me tell you. I barked and barked and Mom let me out to catch the strange animal and it SHOT me with noxshus liquids. I tried to come inside and get sympathy but NOOOOOooooo Mom shoved me back out the door and said O Poor Nancy but she did not pet me or let me in her bed or anything like you might expect.

O the shame of it.

Then TODAY I got 10 baths. Well I don't really count very well it seemed like 10. It might have been more.

Please excuse my awful language. I am so very upset.

I will NEVER forgive Mom and Dad. I don't think. They could howsomever TRY to get me to forgive them with cheese. And other things to eat and many pats and hugs and kisses. But I won't anyway.
