Best hatchery for central Indiana

Farm/feed stores often carry day-old chicks in the spring. Rural King and Tractor Supply also carry chicks, but have a 6-chick minimum.

If you are in Indy proper then you might want to check out http://www.agrarianindy.com/chick-days/. They already have some in stock. They are more expensive than the feed stores, but you will often find a more interesting variety. You should also call ahead to reserve any you want.

Finally, there is also Craiglist. That is very hit-and-miss. You will find a lot of mixed and pure breeds, very different prices, different quality of sellers, etc.

Edit: Since you appear to be new to chickens, be aware that "straight run" chicks are unsexed. "Pullets" are sexed as females, though it is not 100% guaranteed.
