What hatchery do you guys think is best? There are so many and I am wondering which are the best to look at. I am thinking the criteria that is most important to me is Selection, Livablity and cost.

At this time of year, many are sold out for the season, unless you are getting common breeds like leghorns, BR, RIR or sex links.

I'm partial to Cackle.... my brother praises Marti Poultry.

McMurray gives good service but I had some issues with an order that I won't get into here.

I really like Cackle. They did have some clerical issues this year but they have made efforts to correct it. I have ordered from them many many times and only had one mix up and that was an extra 125 birds in MY favor. They were extremely nice about the problem and did not charge me for the extra birds. As for the condition of their birds, all that I have received from them have been very healthy. I did have two this year with cross beaks but that is 2 out of 500 that I ordered from there. Awesome customer service!
I also like Ideal. My only issue with Ideal is that my orders from them always seem to get pushed back two or three times from the original ship date. They tend to be a bit more expensive than Cackle as well. Ideal has good, healthy birds.

I love Meyers Hatchery in Ohio. You can order as few as 3 chicks. I have had 2 batches of chicks delivered since march and couldnt be more pleased. Both times they sent them out to me i had them the next day. My post office called me both times at 3:30am to let me know they were here.

I also wanted to order from a Hatchery that was pretty close to me so i didnt have any dead babies arrive. Ohio to NY isnt that bad. I believe Crackle is out in MO.

Also, as far as i know they are still shipping babys everyday.

I got chicks from Meyers this year and got very good service, plus your able to do small orders.

We got excellent service from murray mcmurray this year, very happy with our order of 40 chicks. Several arrived dead and a dozen more died within a day or 2, but they were all cheerfully replaced.

Depends entirely on what you are looking for. Price, distance from your home, quality, type, etc.

I've ordered from 5 different hatcheries over the years and had more good deliveries than problems, but all have had some issues.

Post what you are looking for and where you are so we can give you a better idea on who would fit your needs.

I have always ordered mine from Ideal. I have never had any chicks dead upon arrival. They have always been healthy. The people are very friendly and helpful and only once have I not gotten the shipping date that I wanted. Great birds.
