I have Black Orpingtons and Buff Orpingtons. Love them. Buff is a beautiful color but you hardly see Orps in any other color. In fact, a lot of people think Buff is part of the name and not just the color. That's why I HAD to have Black Orpingtons, they are just different. And Orpingtons are very cold hardy too for your area. Most people that have them that far north say they don't have to give them any heat unless the temp gets to 0 or below in the winter. I know here, it can be 35 F and raining and they walk around like it's a sunny day.
Any Orpington. Sometimes there's a flighty one but the breed is widely known for being pretty laid back. None of mine like being picked up but my roo takes it the best, oddly enough. They are otherwise like pets though. They will follow me around and "talk" to me and eat readily out of my hand. Of course I talk back and give them treats (Nope, not spoiled
