Best layer/friendliest breed of chicken?

I have Black Orpingtons and Buff Orpingtons. Love them. Buff is a beautiful color but you hardly see Orps in any other color. In fact, a lot of people think Buff is part of the name and not just the color. That's why I HAD to have Black Orpingtons, they are just different. And Orpingtons are very cold hardy too for your area. Most people that have them that far north say they don't have to give them any heat unless the temp gets to 0 or below in the winter. I know here, it can be 35 F and raining and they walk around like it's a sunny day.

Any Orpington. Sometimes there's a flighty one but the breed is widely known for being pretty laid back. None of mine like being picked up but my roo takes it the best, oddly enough. They are otherwise like pets though. They will follow me around and "talk" to me and eat readily out of my hand. Of course I talk back and give them treats (Nope, not spoiled

Thanks for all the suggestions! I'll definitely get some buff orpingtons haha. And I hope I can find some lavanders.
Also, my dad actually told me he used to keep a lot of bantams including cochins so he approves of those too. On the case of the hygeine for the cochin's, I would only get a few and make sure to handle them daily so I can groom them and possibly show them.

Right now, the calmest smartest bird is the buff Brahma, but my Barred Rock and buff Orpington, RIR and even my flighty Spangled Hamburg are all very friendly. The Hamburg climbs 2 flights of stairs when I call her to have a bowl of yoghurt.

The BLRW in my avatar sticks to me like a burr when allowed to do so. She sits on my shoulder, pecks at details on my shirt, and grooms me while chattering quietly to me. All three of my Dominiques are sweet lap chickens as well.
