If you set up your CX area right they will free range. I have a tractor mine sleep in, when tjwy are young I leave rhem in it with water and feed, i take the feed away at night, after a few days I leave water in the tractor and move the food outside the tractor, a few days later I move it further until it is between 50 and 75 feet away from the tractor. I put a 5 gallon water with the feed and a 3 gallon in the tractor. Don't get me wrong they don't free range like a normal bird, but they get more exercise then most CX's without out the rooster problems, if you have hens free ranging you cant let 50 roosters running around. Just how I do it
