I ordered my chicks from Meyer in Ohio and my shipping was only $14.21, but I ordered 25 at the time. Their minimum is 3-4, but I find it hard to believe they would charge $50. Their webside is very informative about breeds and characteristics, as well as other info. I have heard that MyPetChicken gets their chickens from them and passes on higher prices. My experience was good last spring.

I have to recommend Meyer in Ohio - great customer service. The chicks I received (only 4) were packed great and arrived in perfect condition.

I ordered mine from McMurray they just arrived today. They are all very happy and healthy. Couldnt ask for better

I have only ordered from Ideal, otherwise have picked up my chicks from TSC, Atwoods, and one Kindergarden teacher that lived in a major metro area.

I love Ideal for several reasons, and they don't charge an extravagant shipping fee in Texas. Because of shipping concerns, I would generally recommend ordering from a nearby hatchery, but that's my own opinion.

My grandpa always ordered from them, my parents always ordered from them, and now I always order from them. Who you say? McMurray Hatchery has always been very good to me. The chicks are healthy (well I did get one that was an extra, not counted in the total chicks sent, that appeared to be force hatched. IE no yolk absorbed, but he is one healthy happy young Araucana cockrel right now. And georgeous to boot.) any loses have been quickly and completely replaced or refunded. I just tell them to put it right back onto my account on the rare occasion that I have lost one. They know I'm gonna order more. just make sure they are close enough to you for a quick shipment. We get our chicks at less than 24 hours old and generally around 12 hours which is awesome. If there is a hatchery close to you ask them for a tour, or check them out online. Just bare in mind not all orders are typical and neither are all people. We do have a closer hatchery, but I'm sticking with the ones that have always treated my family like family.

I got my chicks in the spring from Meyer Hatchery in Ohio because I only wanted a few. They all arrived healthy & active & all are still doing great to this date. I highly recommend them if you only want to order a small order of chicks. You pay more in shipping, but if you don't need 25 chicks it's worth it.
