Best Organic Layer feed

i like modesto milling's feeds. we get them all the time and i think the ingredients are top notch compared to some (always smells pretty fresh and isnt overly powdery). no experience with the other brand...

Where are you located? Here in CA scratch and peck is double the price per pound as Modesto milling, so I have been very hesitant to try it. Have you tried modesto milling and seen a difference in eggs?

I feel that ingredient wise both are very good. scratch and peck is slightly better as it is loose and not pellets so no binders or fillers (although modesto milling doesn't seem to have much by way of filler either).

Bar Ale and Nutrena are a step down for sure. im not sure what other feeds there are.

I'm located in St. Helens, Oregon so we can get Scratch and Peck at the same price as the producer offers. The down side to living in rural area is, we do not have a lot of other options for feed, other than Purina. My husband and I have decided that we are actually going to start mixing our own feed as it would be more cost effective because we have 12 week old chicks along with adult hens currently. All of our chickens free range as well and we have never had an issue with picky hens, only messy chicks ;-)

I have used Modesto Organic for a while but I purchased this feed because my wife feels better about it..

I also give them Bob's organic steel cut oats (Costco for about $1/lb).
