Best Pet Goats?

Quote:
Would neutered males and spayed females be alright together, just in case that is what we happen to find?

I checked out Petfinder, but it seems there are no rescues listed for our state that has goats and no out of state rescues are within 100 miles of here.

I guess I will have to focus on breeders and I will ask at the feed store if they know of any goat rescues. In rural areas like this, sometimes people take animals in without really advertising it.

Neutered males and regular females would be fine. Some females get a little loud during estrus (usually only in the fall) but it might not be so bad if you don't have a buck or one nearby.

I agree that if you are just wanting pets, wethers would be the way to go. They tend to stay more playful and kid-like. You don't have to deal with them going into heat and bawling their heads off for a few days every month and as some others started, they tend to be cheaper as well.

Mine look white, but they do have dark markings lol and they aren't white white.

Don't worry, mine are only in this little pen until they move into the big goatie house over the summer where they will enjoy a large pen that isn't chainlink lol.

I have both girls and boys (wethers). My girls aren't any louder than the boys are - ever. Don't get a buck unless you're breeding... For one thing they are VERY stinky. And, of course there are plenty of other reasons too

Take a look on Craigslist, agriseek, & even sites like dreamhorse.com have goats listed under their own category!

A bottle fed one!

Any breed of goat can make a good pet. I'd buy a kid from a breeder that handles them, alot! Try to pick a kid that is already somewhat friendly, most tame down w/ time and attention, but not all do, so starting w/ one that's already on it's way is a good idea. My personal favorites are nubians and nigerians, I've owned nubians, nigerians, alpines, boers, pygmies, one LaMancha, one fainter, and some mutts.
