During trapping season I use the holloween candy my kids get and don't really like....
Anything sweet, marshmallows are a can't fail coon bait. Kentucky fried chicken would definitely work, lol
I've had canned cat food ignored and the coons preferred what ever they could find in the garbage. I've even caught them with a piece of stale pizza. Anything that you thing smells and looks good so do coons.
Be sure to anchor the trap so they don't pick it up( they do that sometimes) a bucket of water works if you have nothing else handy. Another trick I've learned trapping problem coons is make the trap look like a tunnel or a way in, make sure they can't get to the back of the trap. Force them to use the open end and you will catch them.
If the trap is empty but the bait gone it's almost always mice, nothing of any size can get to the back of the trap without hitting the pan. I've made a wire hanger to put a marshmallow or two on that hangs from the back of the trap so it suspends the bait.
Good luck coons are fairly easy to catch, make sure you dispatch it. What ever you do don't relocate it, nobody else wants your problem either.
