Best roo for protecting my hens from predators?

I have a serama rooster that will fight anything. You should see him against a big dog. He will fly up and peck at his nose and then run under neath him and jump at his back. Our neighbors black lab keeps trying to get at the chickens when they are out and he runs him off. He even will stand up to my big, big rhode island red rooster( weighs about ten pounds). I love watching him and getting a laugh or two because when he is done he flies up to the top of the hen house and flaps his wings and crows. Like " just look at what I did!!!!!"

It's not the size of the chicken in the fight, but the size of the fight in the chicken!

A cock bird is not an effective predator deterrent. Most cock birds will squawk an alert and then run. Occasionally one will fight, but usually lose against a determined predator. Your best defense against predators is strong housing and good fences. Electric poultry netting is very effective for birds that day range.

I have three red jungle roos now. All of them are VERY territorial and run with and interact with their particular group of hen for the particular day.

Here is "Mr. Roo". He is VERY active in the protection of his hens.

Here is one of his sons. Just starting to mature into a nice roo.

This is the only useful answer you've gotten. The notion that a cock bird will defend against preditors is another BYC myth/fact.

It doesn't matter that much in most situations. You have to protect your rooster from predators just as much as you protect your hens from predators. No rooster is a match for a really-determined, hungry raccoon, opossum, or coyote. A large hawk striking from a fast dive to the back will immobilize/kill a rooster just as easily as it will a hen. Almost all roosters will fight for their hens, but NONE are much of a match against most predators.
