As far as producing chicks, sex-links do not breed true, so I would stick with a heritage breed. If you get a RIR or NHR rooster, than you would be able to sex his chicks at birth with the white mothers (Delaware, white rock, SLW, leghorn? - red sex links), and the barred rocks (black sex links). NHR rooosters get pretty big, so his male kids could be good meat birds, especially mixed with Delawares or white rocks.

As far as selling chicks, I would never try to get prices of purebred checks…..unless I had them. I used to show cats for several years and know about pricing for show animals vs. pet. I would just like to hatch some out for fun and sell them for a buck or two each. Saving that money to pay for processing and feed, along with egg money. I’m hoping for a broody hen or two next spring, but will also purchase an incubator soon. And I certainly wouldn’t want to offend anyone with show birds. That is a lot of work! I am hoping to get my girls into 4H when they are old enough.
I have a couple of questions about meaties I will post to that forum.
