Best source for adding a few (4-5) more?

I currently have 12-week-old pullets and one cockeral who was supposed to be a girl. 4 are EE's and 5 are SSH. I want to add a few more exotic looking or different breeds at the end of September (I'm traveling too much in Sept. to do it before then).

I got my current birds from the Meyers Hatchery, but like the idea of getting them locally instead (I live in Connecticut), especially since I'd like a bantam but they only seem to sell them as straight run. I really don't want another rooster. Other than talking to poultry exhibitors at the upcoming local fair, is there any other good source recommended? I'm thinking of adding a Cochin, Bearded d'Uccle, Brahma, Jersey Giant, Polish, Silkie or Orpinton. Okay, that's seven, but I'm finding that I want a sampler flock.

Also, if I find a local hatchery, would it be better to introduce new older pullets to my current flock while they're still pretty young or does it make a difference?

It is hard to find a place that sexes bantams and most want a minimum of 15 to ship. I wait for my chicks to be at least 8-12 wks old and introduce all at once to the flock. If you have an incubator you could buy a variety of eggs on ebay but I have not had much luck hatching eggs sent thru the mail. I live about 45 min from Meyer Hatchery so going for 6 -8 new chicks is not a problem. Hope this helps Ironjerry

well arent you just lucky to live so close to a hatchery LOL haha I wish i lived only 45 mins from one but no i live 5 states away LOL

mypet chicken allows small orders

Ideal poultry let you order based on dollars, I ordered 10 the last time I ordered. I ordered a pullet surprise of 10 chicks and got 7 different breeds.
