Best tempered Roo?

You know, when we were little, come to think of it I do remember those two white leghorn roos we had as Easter chicks chasing us once in a while. We used to think it was hilarious, though, when they would run at us and spur us; never hurt much; sorta like a basketball with small spikes, hitting your leg. They used to chase the paper boy, too and he would run around the house to get away from them. Comes back to the same thing; I think it depends on the individual and also how much you handle and pamper your boys; maybe a little to do with the breed. We have had a lot of roosters, and only had one who would chase us; he was a pain; a Barred Cochin, brother to the one we have now. We had to carry a broom around him; or Whitey roo would protect me from him. The Barred Cochin we have now (his brother) is a sweetie; never offered to hurt anyone, and very calm and even tempered.

I have a black Jersey Giant roo, Joxer, that has the calmest disposition, even around strangers. Joxer gently takes treats from hands, he's even easy on children's hands.

I've had sveral cornish cross roos and they were all big babies. of course due to them being bred to be killed at an early age, at 8 months old, they do look aittle rough, but they make up for it in temperment.

My barred rock is very good tempered. We got him at 1 week old.
On the other hand my white leghorn chases and pecks anybody who comes in contact with him except our immediate family, we got him when he was10 weeks old.

Maybe age at the time you get them has something to do with it?
