Hi everyone. Pretty sure a couple of my girls have favus on their earlobes and combs. Is Lotrimin the antifungal of choice? Are there any counter side efects? It just seems so strong to put on a chicken. Can it be absorbed through the skin?
Also, a third pullet has a little bit of black on her comb in spots. I thought she was dirty, as they were playing in mud after rain on Saturday, but it’s still there today, so I’m wondering if it’s favus, too. Can favus look black, or only white? So far, I don’t think it's fowl pox, but will be watching closely.

Didn’t realize Favus was ringworm, just that it was a fungus. Can they only get it through contact with infected birds? In that case, that is probably not It. This girl’s earlobes are turning white. The face photo shows her dryish looking comb.

I don’t have a photo of the comb with black, but you’re probably right. Now that that my Margo has come out of her molt, she’s asserting her dominance over those lower in the pecking order. They may be peck marks scabbed over.
