best way to check if they are using the roost bar

If your roost is 4.5 feet off the ground, it is too high. Lower it to 2 feet, or at about the same height as the floor of your nest boxes. My roost is at about 3 feet, and that is still realy too high for my FAT birds......

i was wondering if it was too high. i was told to put it higher than the nests by about 1ft-2ft.
will use the nests tho to sleep?

I have a couple that sleep in one of the nest boxes, but that is because I don't have quite enough room on the roost. They should have about 9 inches to a foot of roost per bird.
I found that the chickens had a hard time not only getting onto the roost when it was high, but an even harder time getting off. They need a bit of room to "fly" down, and were crashing into the wall.

the bar is now lowered a little higher than the floor of the nests. hopefully this will work.
