best way to check if they are using the roost bar

How old are your chicks?

When I put mine in their coop at 6 wks old, they didn't use the roosts for a month. Then they didn't like the ladder type I made out of 2 x 4's.

I ended up puting a long left over piece of plywood 6" x 5' on shelf bracets so it's away from the wall. It has a view out the window front which they love.

I have a large deck storage box/bench under it that they jump up on to get up on the roost. The roost is a little over 4' high.

the hens are about 17-18wks old now. (one is stilllaying soft eggs so have put some grit in there).
im going to try & put a little table in there to see if that helps.
the most of the poop seems to be in the corner at he back just by the nests, so its making me wonder if they are sleeping on the ledge or in the nests (there is also some poop in there).

here you can see from the entrance door. gives a good idea of the height

here is looking down. at the bottom you can just see the bar. this shows you the gap between the nest roof & the bar. the peice of would in front of the nests stops most of the paper from falling out & also stops the eggs rolling out too.
