Best way to clean a coop?

I have a few raised coops and I use hay as bedding on the floor, so the poop falls on the hay. I go in and take out the old hay, hose down the wire floor (minimal to almost no poop on the wire) and put in fresh hay. If the roosts and back walls have poop on them, I clean them with a little bleach and water. It doesn't take long at all. The hay helps out tremendously. If I didn't have hay as bedding, I would be cleaning ALL DAY LONG.

My other coops have dirt floor. All I have to do is go in and clean the roosts and back wall. Bleach and water does it for me.

Since our coop is quite small, we use wood shavings, the ones that are uses in horse stables

no dust.
It's very easy to clean, couple day and just shove it to our compost bin.

My run is 10x10 and is a mix of dirt and sand so it dries quickly. I use a brush rake and a homemade poop scoop to spot clean the poop. The brush rake was $10 at Home Depot and has a 5 foot handle which is nice for reaching under the house. The poop scoop is made from hardware cloth which allows the dirt to sift out yet catching the poop and other debris. I spot clean 2-3 times a week depending on the smell. I'll do a thorough raking with a metal-tined leaf rake about once every two weeks but honestly the chickens do a good job of keeping the soil turned and the run stays fresh if I stick to the 2-3 times a week spot cleaning. I dump what's raked onto the compost pile.

Best way to clean a coop? ......Beat your children until their attitude improves, and then make them clean the coop OR NO EGGS FOR BREAKFAST.

So far I have 2 coops and a 3rd in the making. I use a large shovel and a wheel barrow or my husbands tractor bucket. I fill it up and dump it in the compost pile or somewhere out of the way, we have lots of land. I do this untill the coop is clean of bedding. I use pine shavings. Then I disinfect it and put down new bedding. It just takes sweat and good tools to clean one out! And I do spot clean every day as needed and compleat bedding Removal as soon as I smell a hint of ammonia.
