I've noticed that we've been kind of running out of room for more chickens, so I'm looking for a good way to kill a chicken as pain less as possible. I've heard of snapping the neck or cutting at the neck. Any ideas or tips to give me? Thanks.

The best way is the method that you feel comfortable doing so that you can make a quick, clean affair of it -- what works for one person may not work for you. Are you looking for an initially bloodless option (ie breaking the neck then bleeding the bird out only after it is dead)? Are you squeamish about cutting the bird to cause it's death? Are you wanting simply to have the bird dead or are you killing with the intent of processing?

I'm killing with the intent of processing. I'm not squeamish about the blood, I would just feel better if the pain is quick and not long lasting.

There are lots of good you tube videos! We watched as many people as we could and chose the best way for us. We do what is pretty popular right now, hang them upside down in cones and make a small slit on each side of the neck in a major vein. The heart pumps out all of the blood very very quickly, and they are calm from hanging upside down (not to say that a few brave ones won't try to hop out!) and a bloodless carcass is the only kind I want to eat ;) so it made the most sense to us.
