best white egg layer - that is kid friendly?

I've never owned any leghorns, but all the ones I've ever met have been quite friendly. If you're not totally set on white eggs, why not try some EEs? Mine are friendly, lay very well, and the blue and green eggs are a huge hit with my kids. Good luck!

The Holland chicken is the way to go.

White eggs, friendly disposition.

My RIR hens are vicious when I stick a hand under he to collect an egg. But then she is likely to not get picked off by a hawk or coyote as she is a tough and confident bird. Black sex links are fathered by RIR usually and RIR is usually the father with the red sexlinks.

Ideal offers a variety of their own creation that lays a white egg but is barred. Could be a leghorn type. THey don't/won't say the breeding per se. Don't know the personality myself.

THere is a rare heritage LF that lays white eggs; can't remember the name. Maybe Barred Holland ?

I can't believe nobody has suggested Polish.

The OP requested a white egg layer, Polish fits that requirement.

They're also some of the easiest handled birds I've ever owned.

They also come in bantam sizes that would make them an even better choice for kids.

Pluse they come in lots of different colors!

What's not to love?

Do you know if Ameracanas are great chickens?
Ameraucanas, as purebreds purchased from breeders, are very friendly hens in my experience, although they don't lay that well.

Easter Eggers, or any chicken purchased online from a hatchery or in a feed store labeled "Ameraucana" "Americana" or "Araucana" are extremely flighty and not friendly at all IMO. I've had over a hundred EEs from six different sources so far, and NOT ONE of them has been a friendly bird. They are harder to handle than my white Leghorns. That being said, I love them because they all look different and lay different eggs, and I think that's fun.

Where did you buy them
Pretty much almost any major hatchery will have white leghorns, they're a very popular breed although I've personally heard more people say they're usually flighty but breed temperaments are just what the breed tends to skew towards. Any bird can be flighty or friendly.

Ik the comment about the EEs was from well over a decade ago, but most of my easter eggers have been friendly
