Hi there, and welcome to BYC!Any idea if this is a rooster? It was sold to us at a feed store as an Americana
Thank you for this information! I’m really thankful for this site especially considering I am new to this chicken raising fun!Hi there, and welcome to BYC!
Feed store "Americana" are Easter Eggers (like you stated).. meant to represent the AmerAUcana breed but NOT for show and won't breed true NOR match ANY standard of perfection (hence his different looks). He appears to be non bearded (and I'm surprised his wattles aren't bigger or redder for the size of that comb). But I do believe that comb is telling at the stated age. I've had both breeds and EE (hens) are still a favorite of mine with their mixed bag of patterns and personalities.
I agree with others.. that is a cockerel. Not technically rooster until reaching a year old.. terms being mostly relevant when discussing things like behavior or medical conditions.
Pointy (male specific) hackle and saddle feathers won't start to present until 10+ (usually close to 12) weeks.
