better pics of the (probably) american gamefowl rescues . . .

hi everyone:
i spent a lot of time trying to get some better pics of rubio (roo) and anita (hen) today. anita is hard to photograph because she NEVER stands still.
please keep in mind that rubio's tail feathers were ripped out during the dog attack so we don't know what his tail did or will look like . . .
so based on these photos do ya'll still believe that they are AGFs of the "roundhead" variety or some mix thereof?

I like them! I also think you're a very lucky person to have them. I don't know anything about gamefowl, except the OEGBs. They look long & lanky, and I know the hens make good broodys.

Cant say any thing about the breed- but they are good looking birds.
Does Rubio's foot always stay curled like that?
I am sure his tail will look great once it has time to grow back in.

her comb hasn't really changed since she's been here (unlike rubio) and she hasn't crowed.

oh geeze.

i'm gonna have to find a home for her for sure if she's a dude. i don't have the space for two AGF roos (and i have a silkie roo too - my plan was just to make rubio a house-chicken - problem solved.)

so the challenge will be finding a home for him/her in s. cali that raises or keeps for show-only (looks only, not nec. someone who actually goes to shows).
any ideas?

to C4C - yup, he suffered nerve dammage during the dog attack and his leg will always be "off" as a result. but don't feel too bad for him - he has adjusted well and can get around nicely. he won't win any foot races but . . . i've got two legged chickens for that

Just curious. I have never seen a comb like that?what are those called?

I don't know... I don't think Anita is a rooster, she doesn't have the pointed hackle feathers that Rubio has. I would allow the feathers to grow out to be sure, and keep an ear out for any other crowing besides Rubio.

All of the pictures above are roosters. You will find that as they mature the breast will turn black. You do have an american game fighting type stock. My guess is that they are of a "round head" type or "yellow legged hatch." I used to have some fighting chickens about 30 years ago that looked similiar. They were "Allen Roundhead" with pea combs. One of the pictures above looks to have somewhat of a peacomb. The one with the flat big comb I feel is the result of breeding the peacomb to single comb......in the next generation of birds the comb is all screwed up and distorted. People who fight these type chickens could care less about how the comb looks because they "dub" the comb (cut it off). Not sure of the variety but you definately have fighting stock and your hands full deciding what to do with these roosters as they mature. These birds may not be fighting each other now even while together, but look out, as they mature they will fight until one is left alive and one dead. Best of luck.
