You really need a secure coop for your ducks same as chickens. If you go to the search menu an type in duck coops you’ll get a lot of different ideas from pallet houses to fancy ones. Even chicken coops can be modified to work for ducks.

I’ll see what I can find on Craigslist or FB marketplace. I’m really bummed they can’t all live together. But my coop is probably too small for my lot anyway!

My Runners Buffs And Muscovys along with my chickens all sleep in one coop. Chickens an Muscovy roost Runners Buffs in the shaving on the floor but there is plenty of room no fighting just a place for sleep and safety. Did your chickens attack your ducks?

Yeah, I tried the slow intro. When they were much smaller I kept them in the dog kennel inside the run, then I put the low fencing on the outside of the run so they lived side by side for a couple weeks. At first when I put them in, I thought things were going well. But then I noticed my ducks were losing feathers and I’d catch the chickens chasing them around and pecking here and there. I moved them out on the second day.

Best to do that for sure. I really don’t know why this works for me but it always has. I do have others coops one for the geese that have to be housed by themselves. And houses I use for brooding and hatching and then a spare Runner house. You could say we’re a small town lol.

I use a crate like that when I need to separate one of my ducks from the others inside their pen. But the distance between the bars would not protect them from predators. Until you can work out something more permanent, I would buy a roll of 36” wide 1/2” hardware cloth and some zip ties and wrap your crate with hardware cloth, including the top and bottom. A 25’ roll should cover it. You can wrap the door as part of the wrap around the sides and secure the hardware cloth with the zip ties. When you have an opportunity to build something more permanent, the hardware cloth can be repurposed as part of that build.
