That was an excellent article. It was balanced and well written.

As for the treatment that family received they do have recourse.
I'd have several lawyers suing the state immediately. That was
clearly an overuse of force and judges hate that as does the
general public.

I have to think there is more to this story than has been mentioned.

I agree PC...IMO, a little two far fetched for something that simple. The media is often selective with what they tell you. I dated State Trooper once for a few years and was amazed at what was reported by the regular news versus what I new actually happen from the gentleman I was dating actually being there. Since then, I take everything I read with a grain of salt.

things. The local media leaves out key facts in order to make the story
more compelling to a mass audience. Plus most of the reporters are just
idiots.


Rosalind, that is great that the Buckeye institute is doing that. I have
confidence they will get justice, assuming justice is due.

Ruby Ridge was a case of armed resistance. Big mistakes were made

JME from living in Ohio: It's like a totally different country. A Second World ex-Communist country where there's sorta-kinda nominal democracy, but in reality it's petty bureaucrats wanting bribes, poor wages, a ruling class that gets all the $$$ (often by shady conflict-of-interest deals using gov't money that was supposed to go for something else), high unemployment, over-the-top punitive responses from police & judges, general incompetence and a whole lot of enforced conformity that is supposedly "for the sake of the children" or something. Amazingly resembles Chinese government, without the Mao suits. And like China, many Ohioans felt that they were living in a free-ish country and saw nothing wrong with corrupt and demonstrably insane governance and all these other issues. I blame the green bean casseroles, those things are bad for you

.

Having since moved to New England, I assure you, PC, it is very hard for people who come from a somewhat more reasonable and better educated place to comprehend the depth of weirdness that reigns in Ohio. It is 100% plausible that not only is there no more to the story than is in this article, but that there will be NO justice served whatsoever, that they will lose their co-op and all the stuff that was confiscated, and get no compensation. Plus, probably there will be some harassment from the local cops & FBI thrown in for good measure. And no one will care, and some goofball will say, "Well, what does anyone want with all that hippie organic poop anyway? Preservatives are good for ya! All ya need is a green bean casserole and a big glow-in-the-dark steak for dinner!" and not think any more about it.

You know what, if I was in their position, I think I would make something up about how I can only eat healthy food for some sort of Christian religious reasons. It's pretty much the only thing that seems to command any respect at all in Ohio, because for sure, Constitutional rights and the rule of law don't.

I agree with all of you- but I cant help wondering if they were growing anything else- if you know what I mean?... Not to bad mouth or speculate, but perhaps there is more to the story. Of course I think this is terrible tho- holding people hostage because they are running a co-op is ridiculous.
