Which hatchery are you ordering from? Most hatcheries have chicks available, you must be ordering something unusual?

I'm ordering from Meyer Hatchery.

You have to wean them off. By 4 weeks, especially in July your brooder temperature and outside temperatures should be similar by 3-4 weeks. Aren't you using a heat plate? They will probably wean themselves off it faster.

I'm using heater plates this year.

I usually take the peeps outside for a couple hours, to help them acclimate to the temps outside the brooder box.

From Tractor Supply I'm getting 2 Buff Orpingtons, 2 Easter Eggers, & 1 random bantam.

From Meyer Hatchery I'm getting:

1 Frizzled Cochin Bantam, Straight Run

1 Black Copper Maran Pullet

1 Welsummer

2 Black Sumatra Pullets

1 Black Sumatra Cockerel

2 Heritage Barred Rock Pullets

1 Heritage Barred Rock Cockerel.

This is what you are ordering? That single bantam will be a sad bird if kept with the rest. I've read Sumatra can be very gamey and prone to aggression to other birds. It's why I have avoided them. You will have a busy flock.

No, Sumatras only fight for dominants, occasionally, & during breeding season only towards each other. Rarely fights are deadly.
They're easily tamed at an early age. I did my research before settling on them.

I had to remove the Bantam, since it won't let me order without adding 2 more to the cart.

Misty I am sorry but I don't understand where all these birds will go if your Grandpa won't allow more pens? I think you're in for a lot of headaches..
You already have too many Roosters and Cockerel in your pen.

I know what I'm gonna do, no worries. We're going to expand the Bantam coop, & there's still enough room for a few more birds in the other coops.
