Bidding Etiquette?

This reminds me of something that happened earlier this year. It turns out that I swooped into an ebay auction at the last second and outbid a person from this list. I didn't know it was another member until I saw a post saying that some $%$$$#### swooped in at the last minute and got what was going to be the deal of the week on poultry supplies. I did chat with them about it and in the end we got a good laugh.

Yer know.. my take is if someone outbids me, then they must want it worse than I do.

Happened tonight (but don't tell dh). I bid on a doz eggs I wanted that had a low price.. and was outbid by a tiny bit. I kept an eye on it, in case it stayed low.. but it didn't. In the end, the eggs went for over $40 (not incl ship). Whoever bought them sure wanted them a lot!

I never have hard feelings about it. The closest I came was a group of eggs I tried for a month to get.. kept getting outbid. Finally I REALLY wanted them, and upped my bid.. they went for more than I really wanted to pay, but they were MINE, so I don't feel cheated at all.

As for the 'swoopers'.. that can be frustrating. LOL! Wish my computer was faster sometimes!

I bid on a few online autions occasionally (really....just occasionally!!) and used to get peeved when I got sniped. But then I realized, I can't get sniped if I put the full price Im willing to pay, and if someone else snipes higher than that, well, its fine because I wouldnt have bid that high anyway. So unless you want the adrenalin rush of bidding 13 seconds before the end of the auction, put your final bid on there and be content that if you lose, someone was willing to pay more than you. And usually, generally, most all of the time, that item will show up again.

Now on a different note, I was bidding on ebay on some old books....I collect old books. Now those books I got into a bidding war and ended up bidding more than I wanted to (I won!), but Ive never seen them offered since then, so Im content I did what I had to do to win that war, er, auction.

I contact the seller directly. Sometimes you can even get a better deal than the auction b/c sellers don't have to pay auction fees on outside sales.

Just remember tho that if you do the deal outside of ebay or eggbid or whatever the site is, that you have none of the buyer protections that go along with buying on their sites.

I ALWAYS use paypal, safe for them, safe for me. Paypal offers protection up to $1000 or something like that.

I just went straight to the seller because I saw he lives near me and asked if he would sell direct. We are meeting Wed for me to pick up some blue orp and mix maran eggs!!
