This critter I caught just a bit ago working ground below nest boxes. Large female every bit of 78 inches long and very heavy with eggs. She was tough to catch in the dark with one hand holding flashlight.

What did you do with her?
My receptionist sent me this pic last week. This is from her sister, who lives in Illinois, and has a problem with snakes getting in her house. Yeah, I'd say this is a problem:

I found a pair mating in my bantam run. I hurriedly locked the chickens in their prefab coop/run to deal with the snakes. A friend came running and pointed out the third snake I’d just locked inside with the chickens. I was lucky, they just wanted to mate and ignored the easy meals. When bothered all three left through the chain link.
 
As long as they're not eating your eggs, black snakes are good to have around. They catch more mice than the cats! The problem is that they are drawn to the rodents, then come back for the easy egg-pickin's. Do what you can to keep them out of your coop!
