There's someone close by me who sells big blue plastic barrels $10. apiece. Can I make a chicken coop outta this???? I was thinking if I took three barrels, laid them on their side, made a pyramid outta them and velcro-ed them together ( I'm saying velcro for ease of cleaning. I want something I can take apart and put back together again ) they might make a pretty good quickie coop for someone that has no construction skills whatsover.

What are your thoughts? How can I improve on this design? What would you do differently? Remember I have no construction skills and hubby will probably never get around to helping me. He's a schoolteacher and is back at work already. The days of the honey-do list are over until next summer!

Not enough ventalation, too hot in summer, restrictive, each barrel could be a nest box/holding area for one hen each. Securing them and making doors predator proof would be difficult.

All very good points. Hubby was talking about an A-frame structure over top of this. ( I just like the fact that he actually started talking to me about this! Up till now this has all been MY idea!)

Another thing that has occurred to me is that collecting eggs would be a PITA!

He did confess to me just now that that he had plans of building an extensive coop but ran outta time and the weather 'round here has just been too sultry! ( That and 2 unexpected truck repairs that were kinda pricey! ) Now that he's been back to school, the weather has magically cooled. Of course! So the barrel idea was a 'starter coop' to be up-graded by next spring.
