I wish I had atleast one good breeder here, every time I try to set up good stock in something, I have to buy hatching eggs from across the country. We have some good breeders here. Of course you're limited on breeds to the ones they work with and as it goes if you're doing it even close to right seems it only lasts so many years before they realize it's a money pit.
I think we'll always have a limited selection of breeds you can source for a decent place. We have traders, flippers and auction goers. Not breeders but buy low and sell for profit types. Right now is the time of year egg factories disperse their spent hens. They go to auctions that you have to know about to attend. They sell in 100 lots for a $1 or $2 per bird then CL and Facebook are flooded with "one year old prime" layers. Some sell for what seems reasonable to the unknowing.
I trust health with small breeders way way more then from the ones that have birds changing hands often.
You're going to be proud of me, I bought some brown leghorns to pad out my chick order.
