Big Dessert-Themed Hatch-Along

Come on Marshmallow!!! I just had a very rough hatch and I know how hard it is when the babies quit. I believe mine was a humidity issue - I was using an incubator that doesn’t have good humidity control. And virtually all of the babies had very dry membranes. 8/20 didnt make it out of shell 😣 but of the 12 that are out, they are starting to perk up and I think that at least 10 of them are going to be okay. Which is a miracle because I had to assist basically all of them.

Your son will do great with the eggs! Cant wait to see how your hatch turns out!!
Oh I'm so sorry to hear that! That's so rough! :( I think mine dropped too much at night before the first external pips maybe on the first batch. I'm keeping a very close eye on things this go around in hopes of figuring out the issues. None of ours are in direct sunlight or near any air vents, so I'm losing my mind trying to figure it out. Hopefully the Govees will shed some light on things.

That's WONDERFUL though despite it being a hard fought battle! Thank goodness they had you! Sometimes they just need a little help and it's so awesome you were there and able to. I aspire to one day be able to help that well. 🥰 I have a feeling yours will be some spoiled, well-loved babies!

Thankfully (or unfortunately??) I have a lot of experience in helping chicks. I have hatched and attempted to hatch a lot of shipped eggs in the past. And I mostly hatch silkies and bantams, and they seem to need more help than a lot of the larger breeds. This hatch took me by surprise though, as a few weeks ago I had a very good hatch (different incubator.)

I have 10 more eggs in set to hatch Monday, and I am dreading it because I fear that it will end up being a hands on hatch with possibly devastating results again. Although at the same time, I am feeling very blessed that so many of the helped chicks seem like they will be fine!! Anyways, I was very happy I didn't do a hatch along this time, it would have ended in heartbreak! Sorry to vent here on your thread!!

No, I'm always happy to have safe spaces for people to vent. It's so tough to hold things like that in! </3

Yeah, I was honestly wanting to look into Silkie eggs but was nervous about them being smaller (these Bantams for my Nature hatch-along have me REALLY nervous) so I was planning on just silently hatching them myself since this one and the first had relatively poor results. I'm hoping the nature themed babies keep going strong! But sometimes it helps too to have the support of others through such a rough time.

They are indeed so lucky they had you to help. They're PRECIOUS! 🥰 I'll be keeping you in my thoughts and manifesting the very best hatch possible for you on Monday!

Thank you!! Don’t let my experiences scare you away from silkies lol! They are so rewarding to hatch because they are SO CUTE. It makes it all worth it. But sometimes there is a struggle to get there. And sometimes it works out perfectly! I hope your banties in the nature hatch all do super well!

So hopefully if they start to hatch, he will. :gig With our first eggs, the MOMENT we got our first pip, he was in every five minutes. “Any progress?” Five more. “How about now?” It was like an “are we there yet”. 😂
🤣 I hear that! And I'd be the same way too! 😁

Yes, emotionally I am at a consistent “poke it with a stick” level with hatching eggs. :gig I tossed in a handful of batches so close together so it’s like… okay is it time yet? How about now? NOW? Now… When are they due again? Right. Wait, when are they due? 😂
Having ADHD is doing me no favors because I keep forgetting. I have a huge whiteboard with “batch color, set date, lockdown date, hatch date” in case. Sweet hubby nailed it to the back of the door last night so it’s always easy to see. But it is a nice surprise to go “wow that’s pretty soon now!” over and over throughout the week. 🤣
