Big Girl is limping! Help me, please!

The hen in this picture has the opposite problem—varus deformity, which makes the leg bow outward:

Update on Big Girl. Vet took an x-ray. Said it was a bad sprain, nothing dislocated!! He gave her a steriod. She is coming home with me now!!

Very glad for you and your girl! I’m sure she will be back to normal in no time. It’s great that you have access to a vet and are able to provide such good care for your birds.

The only vet we could find that saw birds is about 50 miles away. Our closer vet doesn't see small animals, the dingy guy. It cost me 224 dollars, but I'm just glad she got to come home with me. She was happy to rejoin her sisters.

Ouch! And that’s why I don’t take my chickens in, that and basically the lack of a vet for farm animals here... though sometimes I do get a little off the books advice from my cats vet, hush hush like! He knows we are farmers and is adamant about not being a farm vet, though he was before. He did prescribe me the corrid I needed for my “pet birds” as I couldn’t get any without one. All is well that ends well I suppose! For beloved pets the expense is worth it, but my chickens are in the “spoiled rotten livestock” category
