I have a large (prbably NJG hen) that looks to have an eggs stuck in her vent. She is trying so very hard to pass it and she is making quick loud "chirps".

She is in a large tub with grass hay in it for the evening. I tried to help her, but I am very afraid that I will break the egg and really do her in.

I tried soap and water on her behind and I have her in a quiet situation. If any one has been through this and can HELP please, please give some advice. She is a good hen and obviously in pain.

I have lost so many birds this winter and spring to so many strange things. I just can not bring myself to cull her and I can not replace any birds until i know what is going on in the barn.

The Guineas are UNaffected and continue to thrive and have nice days free ranging. Most of the chickens are doing good, just some are getting strange symptoms.

Do you have any mineral oil that you can put in her vent? You can boil some water and put a tea bag in it and hold her vent over the stream. Not too close the steam can burn her badly.

I got the first one out, then of course came more. I found her dead in the corner this morning. She was roosting last night in the "pens". I guess she got out and went to the corner of the barn to die.

Poor hen, I guess she just could not do it.
