Big Problem With Ground Squirrels

If the predators are coons or opossums. We have chickens and we run electric fence all the way around the shed and around outside of the chicken run. We used dog kennel panels to build our chicken run.And we use electric fence post and the insulators. Put the insulators down on the bottom of the post about 3 to 4 in off the ground. The run the wire through the insulators. And turn on the fence. We leave our electric fence on all the time but if we let the chickens out to free range we shut the fence off.We have no predator problems. We have had 3 opossums in the electric fence they get shocked and no more problems.we also used hardware cloth wire on all the windows of the chicken shed. We used a old camper trailer as our chicken shed. we gutted it out on the inside.Alot cheaper then building a Shed.It is well insulated and it already has electricity All we had to do was run a heavy duty drop cord out to it and plug it in to the inside if the Barn.It has lights and all the windows crank out and we framed in on the inside of the roof vent with hard ware cloth. So no predators can get in the shed through the roof vent.Put camper up on cement blocks and took wheels off the camper trailer .framed in all the way around the bottom of the trailer with metal roof panels. So no animal can dig under the trailer plus the whole under belly of the camper is sealed with sheet metal.

Oh wow. I didn't know that there were weasels here. Well in that case, I take back what I said about them being in California and change it to they don't live in this area of California. Too many cats, too many people, too many well taken care of farm land, and too many hunting cameras (all my neighbors).

I feel really sorry to hear about your chicken. I have read somewhere that it is a misconception that chickens attract rodents, but they are actually attracted to food and water, not chickens.
Maybe you should consider modifying feeders to prevent beaking-out of feed. Adding divider or chicken wire to the base of the feeder can accomplish this objective. And also, it is important to clean up the spilled feed. The spilled food can attract nocturnal marauders during the night.
You may try repellents like bobcat urine. Strategic distribution of bobcat urine sends rodents seeking food elsewhere. Essential oils such as peppermint or balsam fir are also proved to be beneficial. If the problem still persists, you may seek the help of a squirrel removal service. They will not only remove the squirrels but also prevent future infestation.
