Something I have been watching very closely is the public campaign in England to switch to all pastured poultry production. There have been tv specials and the issue is at the forefront of public debate. More information about the campaign is here:

You can "sign up" to show your support for this movement. It was really amazing how the public in England believed (or wanted to believe) that all the chicken they ate came from a happy place; and when confronted with the truth that only 2% of chicken is raised ethically there was a fair ammount of outrage and sadness.
Now realize this movement is from the UK, where the conditions for broilers are actually far better than in the US. It should really make you wonder.
