I have taken spurs off of 2 roos now.
#1 I was told to soak the spur in peroxide till the spur softens up and then take pliers and twist it off. It still left a cone very sharp spur. Because we couldnt fill up a cup and put his whole foot in the peroxide to soak we soaked cotton balls and held them on his feet for awhile a long while. Finally they were soft enough and DH took the pliers to them they bleed and looked so sore.
#2 Just today I did this, I was told to use a potato stick it on the spur for a few then take it off and twist the spur off. PEICE OF CAKE! I put a potato in the microwave for 2 and a half minutes got the roo turned him over and put the potato on his spur hed it there for a few seconds took it off and gave the spur a little twist with my fingers. It came right off, took a file and filed it down nice and smooth. I then did the other. No bleeding, No pain, Short and Quick time. 5 Min maybe where the other took 30 min or more!
Here is the spur I did today.
