Currently the pen is still set up for winter living. So that means 4-5 inches of pine shavings and straw on top of that. Straw gets changed daily and pine shavings get added as needed. Once I convert to the summer set up, it will be leveling sand (its used for leveling patio pavers) it works like a big kitty litter....just scoop the poop!! Lol
Do you use straw for their bedding in their coop area?

I am trying to figure out what I want to do for my ducks once they go out to the permanent coop and run. I know I won't be doing daily cleanouts (since duck poop is definitely messier than chicken) and not sure about deep litter since I will be using a child's playhouse for their coop. Thanks for the ideas!
I found sand to be extremely easy, if you keep up on it daily, the smell is very minimal, actually none at all!! Every night I would scoop and rake it even....it’s like making their beds when I rake it!!

My husband found two that work via battery and WiFi. I haven't looked into it yet. We just got the ducklings all moved into their run and duck house and the chickens into their new coop.
Busy all day and I am going to relax before adding something else. 
it has been a very exhausting weekend!
