Billionaire Bill Gates says people should have chickens

So giving them chickens is gonna double there income. .
Imagine if he gave them pigs..
They breed readily.
Don't have to wait for a broody to mutiply.
They eat everything. .
One would feed the village.
They get up to butcher size in 6 months. .same as a regular chicken.

Ejcrist, your post about the low cost of keeping chickens in other countries was very well worded. I have contributed several times to a charity that provides people in third-world countries with chickens. The idea is to give people a resource that they can use to better themselves, rather than just giving them a handout. The people who receive the chickens agree to give one of their fellow villagers a certain amount (I think 5?) of chicks once they get their flock established. Then that person does the same thing down the road, and eventually you have a whole village with chickens.
Amen Sister! That's the whole idea and it works better than extremely well. I've been doing it myself directly for many years and it's far better than dolling out cash. Of course nothing is 100% guaranteed but I've seen the results with my own eyes many times. Appreciate hearing you say that.

Yeah but then you'd have to give them BBQ sauce, lots of napkins, etc., etc. That would never work.

I lived in San Jose and watched the orchards disapear.
I do think it would be better if people still had gardens.
Did you know food stamps can be used for seeds? When I worked for the Department of Children and Families in Florida that was part of our training. Food stamp funding comes from the department of agriculture budget.
I told a few people this and often got a mixed reaction.
My family comes from the Pacific North West / South East Alaska and Gardens - canning - that's how you survived.
Raising live stock, chickens, and gardening - is smart on many levels.
I suck at gardening. I keep trying. One Day I shall figure it out.

I don't think there is anything filthy about being wealthy.

For the Record:
Bill Gates is actually my third cousin (His Grandfather was married to my Great Aunt Alfreita)  and is really, honestly, down to earth nice guy.  His wife is really nice too and his kids are not bratty or obnoxious. I don't think I can say that about the kids in my neighborhood who are obnoxious and rude.  I have only met them a few times.  I knew him when he was a kid. and ran into him at family functions.

Bill has lots of interests and his family had chickens when he was a little kid.  As did his grandfather.  He came from a family of farmers and just because he did well, I wouldn't hold that against him.  Bill does a lot of good but he doesn't say a whole lot about it because he doesn't do good deeds to make himself look good, he does them to be a good servant to others.  That's how his Dad and Grand dad were.  They quietly helped others.  Committing Random acts of kindness.

He is a successful guy but he still puts on his socks one foot at a time.

Just saying
