my roosters comb is turning black. what would cause this?

Is he breathing okay if it is purple then that is a lack of oxygen. Is it like all black? My rooster hit his head once and it turned partly dark purple.

Can you take and post a picture so we can see what you are seeing? Is the comb itself turning color - if so from the top down or bottom up, is it solidly changing or mottled looking, etc - or is it that there is black crusty areas on it or?
