Yes, the salt would have to tilled into the soil not only from not killing the chickens, but to effectively kill the oocysts in the soil...as stated in the link.
Yes, If I do salt, I will either dig it under and/or wet it in, and keep chickens in coop till all salt is in ground, er under ground( still on the fence on the salt )...can lime work the same? I would rather use something that the grass could grow back with, but don't want to keep worming them as a prophalacitc sp? to keep them healthy, if lime won't do the trick ( do you think I might have to anyways?)...sigh, IDK what to do...I was told I could lime the coop, as I have already taken what was supposed to be my winter bedding out and burned it, due to the cocci, back a few months...and since the gaping stopped with worming, I am assuming, that it IS the gapes...not even sure on when to retreat...I know 10 days, but ten days from start of treatment, or ten days from stopping treatment? I am lost guys, can you help out an old fart that has never faced this before? What would u guys recommend? I wish it was a little later in the fall, as I would have access to tons of wood ash...HELP PLEASE????? and HUGE THANKS TOO!!!!
To explain, I am on the side of a mountain, so much of what is put on the soil is quickly washed away,( this year we are getting torrential rains ) even IN the soil...we are just below the crest of the mountain, so everything is up or down here...quite a bit so...if that helps with any recommendations you all might have???? What would you guys do????
edited to ask, I was told 2 days treatment, then read 3 days treatment????
