Biosecurity

Ok I am new so I got poults last month from someone, couple of weeks old. Now I am getting 20 more and I have ones I hatch out.
So, now I need to keep the new hatched ones away from anything I have right?
Even if they came from the same place, right?

I am constantly buying or selling different birds and usually from swaps. I have had some lice get in, but who knows where it started?? I have also had sick birds, but usually only in tight brooding situations and usually clears up with any antibiotic in the water. I of course have found the occasional dead bird as well, but who knows. I think it is a lot like kids now days being more sensitive due to living such sheltered lives. Let the hearty birds survive is my thought. Of course I only have a couple hundred dollars worth of birds to worry about.

I agree. You shouldn't risk your whole flock just for one chicken. It's definitely not worth the heartache and the trouble. I have six leghorns and they are all happy. I probably will be adding some other breeds, but for now they are happy chicks
