Are you sure he's birchen?
He looks more like blue with leakage on his hackles.

That’s a LOT of leakage though, no? They’re supposed to be solid blue or black. He does look blue though. I’d almost bet one of their birds got where he wasn’t supposed to be and he’s maybe blue birchen? He’s either birchen or really bad breeding stock…

Blue birchen is like birchen but with the black diluted to blue.

They’re supposed to be solid blue or black.

I'm not implying he's BBS Dog, simply that he doesn't look birchen, or any recognized variety. He looks like a mixed color. Blue with leakage.
