Birchen Marans Thread

I have 2 Birchen Marans roosters and would like to breed for a few more. I have Black Copper,Blue Copper,Splash,and a couple Blue Marans hens. Will any of these work in matings to the Birchen to produce at least some Birchen chicks?? Thank You....

Currently you do not have a possible combination to get the standard Birchen variety. That being said if you have a true solid blue hen with no copper in her, you could breed you males to them and get Silver Blue Birchens. Just do not add the copper gene with them.

that would be what I would do if desperate. you will have to keep breeding BACK to.the birchen to get.the pattern set. ......hum I have 2 solid blues floating around....

I really like this guy. I kinda wish he had some leg feathers.

Thanks. Yeah, he has about five feathers on each leg near his feet. Very sparse. The hens both have ample leg feathers, and I'm looking forward to a spring birchen marans hatch (eggs from a breeder you know). Can't wait for spring!!

how old do the roosters have to be to start mating. my rootie is about 4 mths. hes grabbing the girls and dancing and shaking his ail feathers. what little ones he has. please let me know this is my first time ever having chickens as an adult.

your pic of the blk birch looks just like mine. do yours breed already? my rootie is crowing grabbing the girls and dancing. hes about 4 mths old. hes trying just not there yet I think. plz help
