Well I don't have much information on this one.... but -
DH gets home before me at night. He feeds and waters the girls and makes sure they're in for the night....
He never told me that the last few days one pretty lady was acting different.
well when he came home last night he called me and sadly we had a dead hen. He said she was acting fine in the morning so he didn't think anything of it.
He did however say she was stiff (sorry about that graphic description) so she must have been dead for awhile. (we're gone from 7am-5pm)
We have 2 heat lights and lots of water and food. Any idea what could have happened?
I was unable to check for an impacted egg as DH 'disposed' of her in the woods. Obviously this can happen in nature, I've just never had to deal with it so I suppose I was looking for someone else to say yes it does.
It makes me sad, as we've had them since 1 day old. I/we will be keeping an eye on the remaining. How terrible to lose them all. = (
Thanks for listening....
ps- no predator either. at this point I think the only thing that could get in the actual coop (where they were locked in due to the inclimate weather) would be a very hungry bear.....
