I use birdseed for my hens as scratch, they like it much better than regular scratch feed, sometimes I mix it with scratch feed, depending what is on sale. The sunflower seed (BOSS) is high in protein. I get entire bags of just BOSS and add it to the mix so it is heavy on sunflower.
You can soak it or feed dry.
