Bird watching

Pics
Awesome! We had a tom and 4 hens yesterday but they didn't show up till the afternoon. I was worried about them! Ridiculous but I'm becoming attached lol

And they are becoming quite tame. They come eat all the bird seed in the garden. They still run away when I go out but only across the driveway and when they are way up on the hill they don't even move. They look at me and maybe bunch up a tiny bit but not really.

Anyway, today we have a tom and 2 hens.

Yesterday I was really starting to think it was the same tom after all but now I'm really not sure because why do I see him with less hens continually?

Today's tom was all puffed up and blue/strutting. Yesterday's guy never seems to strut or puff up. BUT. If it is the same guy maybe he just doesn't do it when I'm looking lol

But the tom went in the garden too, usually he doesn't so I got an awesome close look at him/his face for once!

I got a new camera yesterday so maybe I can take pictures of the turkeys now!

OH!

And about the bear, it was further west so it's not like I personally saw the bear but yeah, still sad :/ I'm trying to find the story because I can't remember if they shot him or did try to relocate him. I think because he was up a tree and next to the highway they couldn't really get him and shot him?

But I did find this adorable, happy story! Lol

But then I found this other one

So I guess it depends on the individuals

Apparently the bears are expanding eastward. Cause I forgot to mention before, they are actually out in western MA as well as being in the northern states but I guess they're heading east.

But anyway, sorry to get so off topic lol is it off topic? I don't know. I never know, I made a separate wildlife thread cause I thought people might be bothered if I talked about that on the bird one? But then if you like birds maybe you like all wildlife and it would be fine? I don't know lol

I suppose we can keep talking about the bears here though since we already started and it's my own thread :D

And if you have any other wildlife there, I'd love to hear about it either here or this one :D

Also do you have any ideas for getting the birds back? We have some but the turkeys and the squirrels keep scaring them away :(

Maybe not put food on the ground in the garden and feed the turkeys elsewhere? I originally did that for ground feeding birds but the turkeys amd squirrels found it

This is your thread....you can go off topic if you care too.

Yes, squirrels are pesky and I prefer not to feed the wild birds on the ground for sanitary reasons. I only feed a bit at a time to the Turkeys on the ground, only what they will clean up. This keeps the squirrels, mice, rats and other assorted nuisance things at bay. LOL I feed the wild birds in a different spot so there is no competition and use bird feeders.

Speaking of which, my Black-headed Grosbeaks are back for the summer!! whoo hoo!! I love the Grosbeaks, so pretty and have beautiful song. I look forward to the summer birds here each year. My Hummingbirds are already consuming too much feed!!

That's true! Thanks! Lol

Hmmm, yeah, I think after they eat this feed I'll clean it up, or maybe clean it up now. Even if it was sanitary it looks terrible having seed all over the garden lol

Although it doesn't keep the squirrels and chipmunks away; they climb the tree :(

But yeah, I think I'll start feeding the turkeys elsewhere. Maybe on the hill where they hang out!

But oh wow that's awesome! Not sure if we have those here or not. And oh boy, already!?

Squirrels are so annoying. I battle with them all the time around the bird feeders. But it seems squirrels and feeding birds go hand in hand. Ha! UGH.

I think you guys have the Rose-breasted Grosbeaks and we have the Black-headed Grosbeak. We also have Blue-Grosbeaks. Let me see if I can find some pictures on line here....

I mean, I think they're kind of cute but not when they're in my bird feeders eating my bird seed I got for BIRDS!!! LOL and we have sooo many of them. But there was this one that keeps coming and drinking out of our pond in the garden and it's actually kind of cute, we have stones around it so he like leans over on the stones and leans down for a drink. Pretty cute lol and yesterday one was soaking wet from the rain!

But those same squirrels also eat my bird feed and it is very annoying. I'm thinking of getting a post or something and putting the feeder on there with a baffle but then they'd probably jump off the trees or eat the spilled seed.

I've never seen them but I don't pay much attention hah
