Are there many birds for sale at poultry shows? How do you know if the chicken is for sale? Do they have auction type events at the end of the show? Sorry for the many questions, but I am interested in buying chickens to breed and show for the following breeds...

Silkies
Dutch Bantams
Japanese Bantams
Polish
Bantam Cochins

Are these birds commonly for sale at shows?

Thank you in advance!

I have seen all of those for sale at shows. There may be sales going on in the parking lot, or there should be an area of sale cages on the floor in one corner of the show hall. Sometimes people write "for sale" on the show cages.

You can get some nice birds at shows. Just be careful when you bring them home and be sure to quarantine them for 4-6 weeks far from your flock. You never know what they may pick up with all of the exposure to other birds there.

There is usually a sales ara. Ask the Show Secretary; they will know where to begin your search. The one thing is, there is no predicting what will be available and what teh quality will be. It is often useful to go to the breed club (assuming it has a forum), and ask if anyone is going to that particular show, and what you are looking for. More than once Ive been told, "yes, I have some at home...if I'd known to bring them..."

What area do you live in? Theres a Swap meet in Mass on the brockton fair grounds on the 9/19 & there will be lots of birds if you are in the area I can promise there will be cochins there

The show birds are also sometimes for sale. If you see a bird that you like, don't feel shy about tracking down the owner and asking him/her if they are interested in selling.
