Birds HOT!

Thankfully we are not suffering like you all in this heat wave. Up here at 7,000 feet we are seeing temps in the mid 80's. Although I use corrugated metal roofing over my aviaries and sometimes it will reach 90 degrees at ground level where the quail are. They don't start to pant until it reaches 90. If it goes up to 100 in the aviaries I hose down all the metal roofing, siding and all the birds and their area inside. Instantly brings the temp down 10 degrees.

I wish all you folks in this brutal heat wave the best of wishes and hope all your birds make it thru ok.

Been 110+ for 1 month now, with more humity moving in this week. I just make sure my birds have full shade and plenty of cool water. All are doing great. I don't mind the dry heat to much just when we get monsoons. Don't see how you eastern people do it with the humity.

Amen to the dry heat!! We are starting to get our monsoons, although pretty slow to get here this year. Have yours started yet?

It's hard, its really hot and humid here. By 10 o clock the heat index was already over 100 and God knows what the humidity is. Tennessee isn't near as bad as South Carolina or Florida though. It's still hot though, too hot.

.... My girls look like feathered dogs with all the panting.

I have Coturnix, 18 all together. Haven't lost anyone to heat but they sure are panting alot. I'm in NC, its been 90-100 most of the summer, been really humid the past few days. Mine pant alot, I offer them cool water every time I go outside, and in the middle of the day when its hottest, I go out and mist them down once or twice like I do my chickens. However mine seem to be enjoying the heat - they started laying like crazy past few days...out of 15 girls I have gotten 10+ eggs each of the past 3 days (some are 6+ months some are just hitting 7-8 weeks) and I was only getting 5-7 eggs last week. I don't get it.
