 .... The key to preventing Lyme disease from causing lasting effects is to get to the doctor right away for antibiotics! I cannot stress that enough.... When a tick bite is appropriately treated right away,  Lyme disease almost never becomes an issue. If your doctor isn’t used to treating it (ask him or her!) then you should ask them to look it up and make sure you get the appropriate antibiotic at the right dose and for the proper length of time. If you have good insurance, and don’t need referrals, you might even look for an infectious disease specialist in your area, and go to them instead of your PCP.
