Bit by something cleaning the coop! HELP!

Thanks everyone for the input! Not as lethargic today but still not feeling myself and the swelling has increased. This is located on the side of my neck under my earlobe. I’m ruling out spiders and stinging insects because I felt no pain whatsoever. Just felt something on me and when I put my hand there, I ended up with a handful of blood. My chickens had poutlry ticks on them... could this be a poultry tick bite??

I was wondering the same thing! I’ve never been bitten by a mite and I am new to chickens so I’m not even sure what mites look like. I did a full coop cleanout because my chickens were acting itchy.

Deer fly, yellow fly, sand fly, green fly.... they all will bite and will leave a small hole. Hurt like fire but then afterwards it kind of eases off. , You can take steps to control horse flies and yellow flies using bait stations.

I know you said your chickens had poultry ticks, but do you know if you have deer ticks where you live? Deer ticks (any tick, really) don’t hurt when they bite, will leave a lot of blood when you smash them, and the bite site will bleed because of the anticoagulant they excrete as they suck your blood.
Furthermore, if you are allergic you can have lot of swelling and discomfort at the site... and deer ticks in particular will produce that target-type rash (bullseye rash).... and they carry Lyme disease :(.... The key to preventing Lyme disease from causing lasting effects is to get to the doctor right away for antibiotics! I cannot stress that enough.... When a tick bite is appropriately treated right away, Lyme disease almost never becomes an issue. If your doctor isn’t used to treating it (ask him or her!) then you should ask them to look it up and make sure you get the appropriate antibiotic at the right dose and for the proper length of time. If you have good insurance, and don’t need referrals, you might even look for an infectious disease specialist in your area, and go to them instead of your PCP.

So to echo others’ advice: Get thyself to the doctor, posthaste! :hugs (And this is coming from someone who hates to go to the doctor unless I’ve got a limb hanging off, can’t breathe or am unconscious, if then)

I'm in Ohio so similar climate and insects. Yellow flies love me and the females bite --hard! Ticks are more and more prevalent and we northerners are getting more types we've never had before.
I hate to say it too but Dr sould be involved on this one. If the swelling continues and you feel off from yourself then something isn't right. It's better to get it checked then end up on "Monsters in Inside Me."
